Earlier, I linked to the Edge interview with John Gottman as a good primer for his work. Upon rereading it, I realized it's not so good after all - it crams too much in and is too science-y. This chapter from Malcolm Gladwell's book Blink is a much better intro to Gottman.
Quick tidbit from our weekend - Gottman's observation that a "magic ratio" of 5 positive interactions for every negative interaction is needed for any relationship (including those with coworkers) to survive has become accepted wisdom.
New to me - Gottman now says that that ratio has to increase to 20:1 for a relationship to really thrive, not just survive.
